A Season Of Adversity - Clingan

Coventry City captain Sammy Clingan feels that it has been a season of adversity for the Sky Blues.

Speaking to the CT’s Andy Turner, Clingan said ahead of two massive games for City; “It’s been a season of adversity right from the start when the manager wasn’t able to bring in many players at all.

“We’ve had to use a lot of young lads and to be fair to them they have done really well but it has been a hard season and that’s why we’ve been down there.

“All credit to the boys that we’ve kept fighting to the end because we have been up against it from the start. We had a run when we didn’t win many games but I think our downfall has been our away form where we have only picked up one win all season.

“We’ve done really well since Christmas and I felt that once we got out of the relegation zone we’d stay out because the boys had such a lot of confidence, but we just slipped off again.

“Easter killed us really. We went 1-0 down to Peterborough and then showed character to get back in the game and take the lead but then conceded an equaliser from a corner, and then conceded from another corner against Bristol.

“We’ve not really had a rub of the green with decisions going against us so it has been difficult.

“We all feel for the manager who, along with Steve Harrison has given his all on the training field every day, lifting the players and getting us through games. They’ve been really good.

“But it has been a long, hard season for everyone involved in the club and I am sure we’ll bounce back.”
