A Step In The Right Direction - Robins

Coventry City manager Mark Robins said it was a step in the right direction as the Sky Blues made the Play-Offs with a 0-0 draw against Morecambe who booked their place in League Two for next season.

Robins told the media after the game: “Congratulations to the players because it’s the first time a Coventry City team has managed to finish in the top six in any division for almost 50 years.

“That’s a step in the right direction and now we have to learn from the experience we have had and are just about to undertake.

“It’s the first time the club have experienced the play-offs so we have to take it all in and make sure we learn from it and go all out to get to Wembley. We’re two games away from Wembley!

“It was a big day, rubbish game, but, in fairness, it was all we expected.

“The heat and the way the day was going to pan out has probably panned out if you reflect on it.

“If you look at the other results they’re very similar. We have managed to do the first part of it.

“I don’t think there’s any need to go into the analytical side of things. It is what it is, a hot day and a lot at stake for both teams. They made it difficult for us. We played a little more conservative than we normally are but that’s to be expected.

“You want them to push and try to get a goal but their keeper has made two unbelievable saves, certainly from Jonson Clarke-Harris when we should have taken the lead.

“Tom Bayliss has got into some good positions a couple of times and not capitalised but their goalkeeper did what he needed to do and made good saves to keep the score to 0-0.

“They didn’t really threaten our goal at all during the game and we knew that was possibly going to be the case. And however hard we wanted to push there were a few tired legs and minds out there.
