Micky Adams has said he accepts the financial situation after meeting Mike McGinnity today to discuss a budget for next season.
The City boss told the CET: "I am not demanding finances because I understand the situation the club is in. "All I am saying is we really need to progress if we can. We would like to be challenging this time next season but that is easier said than done. I found at Leicester that we cleared a lot of debt by getting promoted."
He went on to say: "I am still looking to bring in experience. I haven't really got anyone specifically in mind but we are doing our job, getting out there and looking at players and talking to agents, but it might not mean anything if we haven't got the finances.
"I know what positions and types of players I want but I don't want to spoil things for the players who played on Saturday because they were magnificent from start to finish."
