He said: "I'm sure that Adrian will be disappointed that he didn't get the top job but he understands that that's the way football works. I know Adrian from afar, we'll see how we get on and hopefully it'll be a marriage made in heaven.
"I spoke to Adrian at length this morning and we're both happy to give it a go. He's got a good knowledge of the players, he's got good coaching experience from the top flight and I'm happy to work with him.
"If I was joining in pre-season and had the time to get to know people it might be different but I have to get to know players very quickly and if there's somebody there who can help me do that I'm quite happy to pick his brains."
