Micky Adams is relentlessly persuing a new keeper after Luke Steele departed to West Brom as part of the deal which took Thomas Kuszczak to Manchester United.
The City boss told the club website: "We are pursuing another goalkeeper and we might have to get a couple in on trial from abroad, that's a possibility. There are other 'keepers out there on free transfers but we want to bring the right sort of quality in.
Adams On Keeper Substitution
"We'll work on the situation ahead of the game and take a look at some of the avenues we are exploring but there is the possibility that we will go to Cardiff with just one 'keeper. But I'm not concerned, I think you saw at the end of last season that I'm not afraid to put five outfield players on the bench, I'm quite comfortable with that."
