Gary McAllister continues to beef up his striking options with the signing of Dele Adebola on a Bosman free transfer from Crystal Palace.

The 27-year-old striker agreed a two-year deal with the Sky Blues after passing his medical yesterday.

Despite being offered a contract extension by Palace the 6ft 3in target man said the decision to move to Highfield Road was not a difficult one.

"Gary McAllister didn’t really have to do a lot to persuade me to join. Coventry is a big club, who have not been out of the Premiership for long and it was an honour to sign for them.

"I’ve got family down here and a lot of ties. It’s where I feel at home so it’s a very comfortable place to be,” said Adebola.

“Palace had offered me a two-year deal, not long before I spoke to Gary McAllister and I felt a move here was the best thing for me. There were four other First Division clubs interested in signing me but it wasn’t a hard choice for me to make."

A product of the famed academy system at Crewe, Trevor Francis splashed out £1m to take him to St Andrews in 1998. In a four year spell he scored 29 goals in 85 league outings.

Reunited with his former boss at Selhurst Park this season he could only muster seven goals in an injury-ravaged campaign.

"The priority is to try and get Coventry back to the Premier League. That is what they are looking for and I’m here to score the goals to try and help them do that," he said.
