Coventry City manager Steven Pressley feels that Chuba Akpom returning to play for Arsenal's youth team is not helping his progress.
Akpom was in Barcelona yesterday playing and scoring in a UEFA Youth League Quarter-Final defeat and has been in and out due to FA Youth Cup ties since joining City on loan.
It’s not an ideal situation and I actually think it’s having a little bit of an effect on the player because we’re trying to teach him to play for us in a certain style and then he’s returning to his club and for periods they are asking him to play in a different style, and I don’t think it’s helping the kid in any way,” said Pressley to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner.
“We fully respect Arsenal’s position but I don’t think it’s doing anyone any favours just now so it’s a situation we are going to have to look at.
“Prior to the Colchester game when we had a good week with him leading up to the match, really working closely with him on our methods, we saw his best performance since coming here. But I think it’s having a little bit of a detrimental affect on his progress.
“I am the first to admit that this is not a situation we wanted but we tried to get so many other strikers. We searched continuously for the right solution and couldn’t find it. We couldn’t get anyone in at that moment and Chuba, I felt, was the best option at that time, although it was far from ideal.
“We’re still looking and if the right one became available prior to next Thursday then we’d certainly be interested in that.”
