Midland Combination Division One side Alvis booked their place in the Ricoh Arena Final of the Coventry Charity Cup sponsored by The Premier Group with a 3-2 extra time win over Southam United at Coventry Sphinx FC.
Both sides had chances in an entertaining first half but it was Alvis who took the lead six minutes after the restart when former Coventry City forward Patrick Suffo curled in a free kick.
Lee Knibbs side were only behind for just over five minutes and drew level in the 57th minute through Pavel Tomczak who finished off a cross from the left from close range.
The chances for both sides continued but it was not until the third minute of stoppage time that Alvis were awarded a free kick and Tom McGuire curled in, thinking he had scored the winner.
However, straight from the kick off, Southam attacked and equalised for a second time through Passey’s shot from inside the area to take the game into extra time.
There were no goals in the first fifteen minutes but Alvis attacked from the restart and Arron Cook scored with a low shot to put Rob Kimberlin’s side into a lead they were not to lose despite having a defender sent off for a second bookable offence in the closing minutes.
Alvis will face the winners of the Folly Lane or Bolehall Swifts Semi-Final on March 27th for a place in the Final at the Ricoh Arena on Tuesday April 23rd.
