Covsupport News Service wishes to support the feelings expressed by our good mates at the West Terrace website regarding the now amended article published on the Coventry Telegraph website written by David Wardale.
Whilst, we accept that the articles written by Mr Wardale are tongue in cheek and accept that many of the CT staff are not Coventry born and bred including the Leeds United supporting Sports Editor, we feel that references made about the Blitz which killed 1283 Coventrians and left many others injured, were offensive and not inkeeping with what one would expect from a Newspaper's website.
We totally agree with and support the comments made by The West Terrace in an open letter printed below.
"As a Coventrian and a Coventry City supporter, I would like to express my total disgust at your article entitled. "Coventry's not-so-secret S&M sessions" dated 8th April. While I accept that Dave Wardales articles are supposed to be tongue in cheek and not to be taken seriously I feel the references made to the bombing of our Cathedral go far beyond what is acceptable as humour.
Over 1200 men, women and children lost theirs lives during the Blitz' of our City with many more unaccounted for.
As a Coventry supporter, our Club badge is an important part of our identity, a lasting tribute to those that lost their lives in this City and a permanent reminder of this great City that rose from the ashes and I find it somewhat galling the ignorance shown by The Coventry Telegraph and the author of the article Dave Wardale on this matter.
I respectfully ask you to remove the said article and apologise to the people of Coventry and the fans of Coventry City.
