Portsmouth pub landlady Karen Murphy has had her conviction for showing Premier League football via a foreign decoder box quashed at the High Court.
She was prosecuted back in 2005 for showing English Premier League football matches in her pub via a Greek decorder card rather than paying for the dearer Sky subscription.
Although she won her appeal, this is not the end of the matter as the judges felt that there are 'other complex matters involved in the case that would require further consideration'.
A number of pubs and clubs in Coventry and Warwickshire who show games via these decoders have been warned by the Premier League that they 'would take "civil and criminal" action against anyone found to be showing games without its authorisation.'
The Premier League said in a press statement: "The law gives us the right to prevent unauthorised use of our copyright in pubs and clubs when they are communicated to the public without our authority."
