The petition for a railway station at the Arena will be presented at a Coventry City Council meeting next month. City Councillor Ann Lucas will present the petition at the next full council meeting on April 11th.
Arena Station Petition To Be Presented
Lucas,a long standing City supporter is asking that the Council revisit the original business plan for the station drawn up in 2003 and said: "when the revised business plan has been completed we will ask the Government to revisit all the options."
A budget had been set aside by the Council for provision of a station and the plan has backing from the city's MP's.
City's major shareholder and MP for Coventry North West Geoffrey Robinson said last year: "Anyone in Coventry can see how the north side of the city has developed over recent years and see the need for a station. "As the arena project continues to grow we do not believe the opportunity to build a railway station should be missed. I believe the building of the railway station is good for the arena development and good for Coventry.
"The station could really help the arena development meet its targets for getting visitors on to public transport and reduce congestion in the area. At the same time, we could get a better service for thousands of people living and working in north Coventry.
"70,000 people a day commuted in and out of Coventry from Nuneaton in the north and Leamington, Warwick and Kenilworth to the south, but few came by train. "Coventry is well served with transport links along the east/west corridor, but has inadequate transport facilities running north to south."

Anyone wishing to petition their Councillor about this matter should see them outside of the Council House from 5.15pm onwards on the day of the full meeting.
