Coventry City's Life President and former Chairman and Board Member Joe Elliott is to be one of the new recipients of the Coventry Award of Merit.

The award, which was first started in the 1960's, has been re-introduced by the City Council for those who have served the city of Coventry for the first time since 2002.

Mr Elliott, who is known for not only his work with Coventry City FC including the Diamond Club and SCG, is also involved in a host of charities as well as treasured places in the city such as the Transport Museum.

Five other citizens of Coventry will receive the merit award and they include two Coventry City supporters.

The first is season ticket holder Councillor John Mutton for his outstanding work in the bringing the International Children's Games to Coventry whilst the other City supporters is Olympic Champion and commentator Dave Moorcroft who did much to bring Olympic football to the city.

The three other recipients are Jaguar Land Rover's Les Ratcliffe, Warwick Medical School's Sudesh Kumar and West Midlands Police's Gary Croshaw.
