The midfielder left crisis club Chester City the other week and had agreed a deal with Wrexham. However, with Wrexham's Supporters Association ready to chip in to bring the player released by Micky Adams at Coventry City to North Wales, Barry spoke to Fleetwood Town who offered him a two year deal and three times the money that higher division Wrexham were going to offer him.
Speaking to the BBC, Wrexham boss Dean Saunders said: "He knows he has let me down. "I could've been awkward and demanded a transfer fee or made him stay but I don't want anyone who isn't happy."
"I'm not so sure it's good career move for him football wise. "Anthony is a good player and I felt the type of player but I told him I had to sign Andy Mangan but I couldn't offer what he was earning at Chester.
"We done a deal and shook hands but he didn't realise he signed. "We put his contract through but then he got a phone call from the Fleetwood manager who offered him a two-and-a-half year contract and offered him three-times the money we could offer him.
"We tried to go as far as he could but we have a wage structure. I am not here to bankrupt the club, I'm here to guide the club out of this league and do it sensibly."
