As expected, Coventry City are to allow Adam Barton to leave the club.
Barton has struggled to command a regular first team place since he joined City from Preston North End and has spent most of his time playing for City U21's.
Now, City manager Steven Pressley has said that he won't stand in Barton's way if he wishes to find another club and said to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner:
“Adam’s a player who I have had conversations with and if the right club came in for him then we wouldn’t stand in his way.
“That’s the conversation we’ve had because he wants to play and he’s at the age where he needs to play first-team football, and I understand that – not that he’s unhappy – but I don’t want to deny him that opportunity.
“So if the right club came in and it was right for Adam then, of course, we wouldn’t stand in his way, especially with the progression of Billy Daniels. And we’ve got other players below that who I think will be very good young players as well.
“He’s told me he wants to play and I appreciate that because when I was his age – in fact I was slightly younger at 21 – I felt the same and I left Rangers to try to find regular first-team football, so I can relate to that and I don’t want hold him back if that’s what he wants to do.
“We’ve not had any interest in him yet, although we’ve not circulated anything.
"That will be up to his agent to do that because we’re certainly not trying to force him out the door. If his agent comes back with something we feel is right for the club and him then we won’t stand in his way.”
