Coventry City’s attacking midfielder Adam Barton believes that the club has finally become competitive in League One after a disappointing start.
It has been four months since Barton joined Coventry from Preston and in that time the Sky Blues have been at the wrong end of the table, but under Mark Robins things have begun to improve and they have been steadily climbing the table.
Speaking about his first four months at the club, Barton said, "I had a decent start in terms of getting games. We wanted to get the ball down and play but you have to understand that League One is not the same as the Championship.
"Most of the games at this level are real grinds and you have to battle for everything and earn your place, and I think we only realised that after about ten or 12 games and when the new manager came in he already knew the situation and knew we had to grind the wins out. And once we do and get to where we want to be we can start playing the way we all want to play.
"The manager wants us to get the ball forward to get the flair players more involved and score goals, and hopefully we’ll get to a situation this half of the season when we’ll be able to start doing that.
"I have been patient for a while, which is all you can do as a young player, and hopefully get back to starting a few games. I’d love to start behind the striker, so that’s my short-term aim. We’ve got a big squad and lots of quality and versatility with players who can do a job on the left, right or in the middle, so there’s a lot of competition for places."
