Battling Coventry Sphinx were beaten 2-0 by Rugby Town tonight.
A good crowd at Sphinx Drive on a very pleasant evening saw Luke Hopkins field a team with only Carl O'Neill, Gio Danity, Luke Downes and captain Ashley Jackson from the first team last season starting against a strong Rugby Town side which had been in the Southern League Central Division Play-Offs for the last two seasons and included their star players in David Kolodynski and Seb Lake-Gaskin.
Rugby had the better of the chances early on and took the lead in the 26th minute through David Kolodynski, who added a second two minutes before the break.
Sphinx defended well when they needed to and although Rugby hit the woodwork twice, a good work out for both sides ended with a 2-0 win for Rugby.
