Former BDO World Darts Champion Steve 'Magnum' Beaton is through to the final stages of the Blue Square PDC UK Open Southern Regional Final.
The-43-year-old Coventry darter booked his place in tomorrow's eight-man shoot-out at The Torch, Wembley, after coming through his qualifying section at the Middlesex Arms, South Ruislip.
He came through four matches Dean Wiltshire (5-3), Mark Holden (5-1), Alan Caves (5-0) and Tony Eccles (5-3).
World number 1 Phil Taylor, Wayne Mardle and Dennis Priestley also came through their qualifying at the same venue. But fellow Coventry darters Dowling brother Kevin and Sean, plus Studley-based Andy Smith all failed to make it into the final stages.
At The Torch, Staunch Sky Blue Kevin easily whitewashed Barry Smith 4-0 in the opening round but received a 5-1 drubbing in his next match by his Warwickshire team mate Smith.
Incidentally, an exclusive interview with Cov City mad and world number 88 Kevin will be posted later in the week where he gives his views on new-boss Dowie, past and current players, the takeover and Villa!
But Smith, nicknamed 'The Pie Man' got the taste of his own medicine in round three by tomorrow's finalist Holland's Vincent van der Voort. PDC debutant Mervyn King also qualified at The Torch.
At the Middlesex Arms, Kevin's brother Sean was edged-out in the titanic final ninth leg decider by Berkshire based Dennis Smith in round two. Terry Jenkins and Colin Lloyd make up the eight man final after coming through their heats at The Tudor, Watford.
London-based City supporters can watch the finals at The Torch, starting at 12pm, for free (nearest station Wembley Park) .
