There had been rumours of City offering a player swap deal plus some cash but it looks like Beckford could be staying at Elland Road.
Leeds CEO Shaun Harvey told the Leeds United official website: "I spoke with Jermaine Beckford's agent on Wednesday and we will be forwarding the offer of a new contract now we know which division we will be playing in next season.
"It's unfortunate that a choice appears to have been made to discuss contract negotiations in public via the media and I'd be disappointed if any Leeds fans interpreted what has been attributed to his agent as Jermaine's desire to leave.
"I understand Jermaine's desire to have his future resolved and know what the future holds for him but I think there's plenty of time to resolve this matter over the summer. Having seen Jermaine's reaction at the end of last Thursday night when he was virtually inconsolable, that didn't look like a reaction of a player who is desperate to get away from a football club."
