Former Coventry City player Craig Bellamy is according to The Mirror this morning, close to returning to Liverpool.
Bellamy has been told that he is surplus to requirements at Manchester City and the paper are claiming that Roberto Mancini's side have agreed to let the Welsh international who was loaned to Cardiff City last season, leave for nothing.
Wales boss Gary Speed said to Wales On Line: “If this Liverpool move comes off for Craig then I think it will be fantastic for him... and them, too.
“Liverpool are a great club, Craig is a great player and they would dovetail nicely together.
“Hopefully, by the time the transfer window closes next week, Craig will have sorted something out and can get on with playing regular Premier League football once again.
“Cardiff City was a special situation for Craig last season, given his desire to actually play football after his Manchester City situation and his wish to try to take his home-town club up into the Premier League.
“But I’ve always said that Craig is too good to be playing at Championship level and that remains the case.
“Somebody of his stature and ability needs to be in the Premier League, and preferably at the top end of the Premier. Liverpool are the sort of team who could offer Craig that opportunity.”
