The keeper who was once sent off for City, forcing Stephen Hughes to go in goal against Stoke City, whilst on loan from Birmingham City, was released by Sheffield United at the end of last season and joined The Terriers on a free transfer.
"I knew I would need to bring another goalkeeper in this summer and Ian fits the criteria for the position precisely," Huddersfield boss Lee Clark said to his club's website.
"I wanted someone to provide Alex Smithies with genuine competition for the position in the starting XI and Ian will definitely do that, but he also has bags of experience, knowledge and know-how that our young goalkeepers will benefit from massively each day in training."
