Fresh from the emotional reunion of some of the ‘Boys of ’87’ at the Cathedral Celebration of former Sky Blue colleague Cyrille Regis last Sunday, Coventry City Former Players Association committee member Dave Bennett will be our ‘special guest’ at the Sky Blues upcoming Ricoh home game on Saturday against Barnet.
Really disappointed that the Sky Blues Legends Day home game (which was to have incorporated a tribute to Cyrille) had to be called off, he is very pleased that CCFPA and CCFC have been able to rearrange our major annual reunion of the club’s ‘Stars of the Past’ so quickly.
Legends Day will now be at the Sky Blues’ last home game against Morecambe on May 5th and by then the Sky Blues would hope to be confirming a League Two play-off spot or better. For the chances of a double celebration at that game, therefore, the Sky Blues need to be picking up points especially at home where their recent performances had been impressive (unbeaten in seven) before that slip up against Accrington Stanley on 10th February! ‘Benno’ will be therefore looking to the current CCFC squad to get their promotion push on track in their first home game for a month!
Not only a long standing CCFPA committee member, Dave has done much to support the work of various Legends’ charitable games over the years as well as other charity events. The Family Zone should be on so look out there first for Dave before the game meeting the club’s youngest fans and their families. Also pre-match ‘Benno’ will be touring the Ricoh Supporters’ Lounges before the main event and, no doubt, immediately after the game Benno and CCFPA’s Billy Bell will reprise a well-worn but very entertaining double act from the stage of Lady G’s in the Ricoh’s G-Casino.
As usual with our ‘special guests’ Benno will also be adding his considered analysis to the live matchday coverage of BBC CWR for fans who will not be at the game. We will also be expecting a good turnout of our Former Player ‘Ricoh Regulars’ at the game as they have not been able to support their favourite team at the Arena for several weeks now.
