Coventry City have signed Trinidad and Tobago World Cup star Chris Birchall from Port Vale on a three-year deal, valued at £300,000.

The 22 year old midfielder made over ninety appearances for the Burslem based side,coming through their ranks.
Paul Fletcher commented: “Everyone at the Club is delighted that we have been able to get Chris here. He is a player who fits into our plans perfectly and is consistent with our aim of lowering the overall age of the squad as the manager builds a team to take us forward.
“As he showed at the World Cup Chris is a player who can mix it with the best and we are all looking forward to seeing him in a City shirt this season.”
Speaking on BBC C&W ,Birchall said: "I've joined Coventry because of Micky and Coventry is a massive club, I'm glad to be joining Coventry and a Championship club and also glad to be playing football with Stern plus all the guys from Coventry. "It was a big jump, which I didn't suffer from going from Port vale to the World Cup, lots of competition in Midfield which will make us all play better and we have high hopes for this season, I'm in awe of the Ricoh, its a fantastic stadium."
