Birchall made 13 substitute appearances during his days at Coventry City and has come off the bench twice for his new club LA Galaxy. The winger played twenty minutes of a 3-1 win against New York Bulls and played the second half of last night's 2-2 friendly draw with AC Milan.
His team mate David Beckham was turned on by a section of the crowd angry that he is trying to get out of his contract at Galaxy. Beckham was expecting some abuse and said: I'm not disappointed because it doesn't affect me. At the end of the day, you can't be liked by everybody, and a lot of people were wondering what the reaction would be here, and they were right. At the end of the day, it didn't affect me as a player. I think the majority of fans were incredible. There was only one or two that weren't. The cheers in the end silenced the boos—that was nice."
