Birmingham City are now unlikely to chase Coventry City's central defender Ben Turner.
Birmingham are suffering from their own financial problems are are more likely to attempt to capture the signature of a free agent rather than spend several million pounds that they may have trouble in raising.
Most Coventry City fans would welcome the news that Birmingham's interest in Turner is waning as the reaction to yesterday's news was mostly in the negative. However if a deal isn't doen, Coventry boss Andy Thorn will have to look elsewhere for the funds needed to strengthen his dwindling squad.
One option for Birmingham is now thought to be the former Tottenham player Anthony Gardner.
He left left Hull City in the summer and has since rejected approaches from Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest, but now looks as if he about to agree terms with Birmingham and if he does, he would be eligible to play against Coventry City when they visit St Andrews next Saturday.
