Body blow for Hyldgaard

City's decision to axe the 6' 6' stopper to avoid stumping up an appearance
bonus has come as a 'body blow' to the Dane.

Hyldgaard was four games away from his 35th appearance which would have triggered a £100,000 payment to his former club Ikast.

McAllister said: 'It’s an unfortunate situation. We’re not trying to be sly in any way. The facts are we don’t have the money to pay the club so we can’t risk Morten getting close to the 35 games.'

The player was given the bombshell news two days prior to the trip to Deepdale where Montgomery deputised.

'What makes it worse is that I was just beginning to feel I had established myself as the no 1 after being plagued by injuries for the last two years,' said Hyldgaard. 'I'll just have to remain positive and try and get fixed up elsewhere.'
