Booing Will Fire Up Bellamy & Bothroyd - McSheffrey

Coventry City midfielder Gary McSheffrey has said that booing former City players Craig Bellamy and Jay Bothroyd tonight will only fire them up.

Speaking to the CT, McSheffrey who played with both players at Highfield Road said when asked about whether the Coventry support lanching into its expected torrent of abuse for both players would affect them: Yes, of course it will and that happens wherever you go.

"When I came back with Birmingham I got a bit of it at the Ricoh so that's only to be expected.

"But they are top class players and since Coventry they have gone on to have good careers.

"Bellamy has had a great career and Bothroyd has done really well, so they are top drawer players at this level and they will come here full of confidence.

"It's a lovely surface and they like to play nice football, so they will be looking to have good games and go away with a goal apiece and the win, so we have got to make sure it doesn't happen."

Speaking about playing together at Highfield Road, McSheffrey said: "I was injured a lot that season.

"Craig came here after he had been out for a season at Norwich with a cruciate ligament, and having been out with a long term injury myself, I know it does take a good few games, and sometimes a season, to get back to where you want to be.

"He didn't show his best but at the end of the day he needed that season to get fit and get to where he went, and when he left he showed his quality at Newcastle and other top clubs.

"The boo boys will be out but he's a good player and has had a good career and we will have to see what happens.

"Cardiff are a good team with top, top players including the likes of Peter Whittingham, Michael Chopra and Chris Burke as well.

"They have got quality on the wings and up front and are a top team in this division.

"We have just got to play our own game and maybe play with a better tempo at home but be hard to beat, first and foremost, and maybe get at them and see how they handle a bit of pressure."
