Coventry City captain Lee Carsley came in for some praise from his manager and players yesterday.
New signing Clive Platt praised the skipper for his leadership on the field saying to the CT: "He was driving us forward the whole game. Even when we were 2-0 down he kept shouting that we only needed one goal to turn the game round and that's exactly what happened."
City boss Aidy Boothroyd agreed and added, "Lee has always been a leader, he's not only a brilliant footballer, he's a brilliant captain who can influence others on the pitch. He's been such a consistent player over the years and he's got better as he's got older."
" You always know what you're going to get from him over the course of a season, and he has the knack of passing that on to other players. You need that sort of presence, you need a guy like that on the pitch to be able to dictate, to organise."
The 36 year old defensive midfielder in in his second stint at Coventry City having originally joined from Blackburn Rovers when Gordon Strachan was in charge back in 1999. He re-signed for the Sky Blues at the beginning of the season from Birmingham City.
Boothroyd continued to heap praise on his captain, saying, "Wherever he's been at he's been in a winning environment, his clubs have been on an upward curve and he's helped to generate that momentum because he's the sort of person you need, the architect of positivity."
"Sometimes when you analyse a player and talk about what he can do physically, technically, tactically and all the other things you sometimes miss out the importance of the psychological factor."
"Lee is an absolute rock; he's a winner. You need people like that in any dressing room, which is why I worked so hard to bring him in."
