The former Southend United midfielder played as a 57th minute substitute against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday and Boothroyd told the CT:When I was manager of Colchester I watched him closely. He's 6ft 3ins and exceptionally quick - he's a really good outlet who likes to go past people, so he gets the crowd on their feet.
"He has only trained a day and a half with us so he has had no matches at all and been training on his own, so I thought for him to come on and do what he did was a terrific effort.
"We'll give him another week and get a really good look at him, but I thought it was a really positive performance."
He added: "A trial works two ways - for us to have a look at him and him to have a look at us - and if the dating works out then we will perhaps take it a step further and get a contract organised.
