Coventry City manager Aidy Boothroyd has praised his striker Marlon King after he came just half the width of a post from opening his scoring account with the club.
King hit a shot which slammed into the post and rebounded of the hapless Scunthorpe goalkeeper Joe Murphy into his own goal, but Boothroyd claimed it was really King's goal and not an own goal.
Boothroyd said to the Press Association: "For me that was Marlon's goal. He has worked so hard since joining us. He deserves to be credited with a goal. It takes a great deal of character to come back from a place where Marlon has been. He knows that and is working so hard for this club."
Coventry dominated the game and the win means they have the worst home record in the Championship.Boothroyd has said he doesn't think they will be relegated though.
He continued: "Scunthorpe is a difficult place to come and they're in a false position at the moment, down near the foot of the table."
"I know their manager Ian Baraclough well and I'm sure he will soon get them climbing back up the table. Conditions were getting difficult as the pitch became more frosty, but we adapted better."
