The defender made four appearances for the U's but with Matt Lockwood returning to match fitness, Colchester boss Paul Lambert has decided to look at players already on contract at the Weston Homes Community Stadium and returned the former Crystal Palace man back to the Ricoh Arena a week early.
Paul Lambert told the Colchester United official website: >"Firstly, I would like to thank Gary for his efforts during his time with Colchester United. "He came in at a difficult time for the club and played a number of games for us, but I am now looking at playing the players who will be here longer term for Colchester United."
