Heroic former Sky Blue defender and tremendous Club servant Dave Busst will be the Coventry City Former Players Association’s ‘special guest’ at CCFC’s F.A.Cup second round tie against non-league Boreham Wood on Sunday afternoon at the Ricoh. Bussty needs little introduction to Sky Blues fans being Director of the Club’s very successful Sky Blues in the Community operation. He is a past CCFPA committee member and always supports Association functions and regularly turns out for charity for the Sky Blues Legends XI.
In another potential babana skin of a tie, after our first round win over Maidenhead United last month everyone expects a comfortable passage through to the 3rd round and a chance to meet the bigger clubs. Boreham, who are likely to field former (albeit briefly in 2015) Sky Blue Blair Turgott, will have their own giant-killing ideas, nor without reason having dispatched Blackpool in the last round. The Sky Blues are still struggling to find a pattern after losing to injury midfield general Liam Kelly and, out for the season, creative source Jodi Jones.
Whilst converting chances to goals is still a problem for Mark Robins‘ men the Sky Blues so far continue to rely on a parsimonious defence often exhibiting the sort of gutsy never say die attitude that Bussty was once famous for.
Though an earlier than usual kick-off (2pm) the Club’s Family Zone will be open before the game. CCFPA’s Pat Raybould and her dedicated team of volunteers will be looking to introduce Bussty to the club’s youngerst fans and their families and fun and games, autographs and photo ops should be on tap.
Also, look out for David pre-match in the Ricoh supporters’ lounges with club host, former Sky Blue defender (and CCFPA member) Brian ‘Harry’ Roberts. After the game you are welcome to come down to the Ricoh’s G-Casino where CCFPA vice-chair Billy Bell will be conducting a jocular Q&A with him on the stage of Lady Gs.
’Bussty’ will also be assisting the BBC CWR match-day commentary team with their live commentary and analysis of the game as it unfolds so if you can’t make the game why not tune in?
