Speaking to the CET,Gudjonsson said: "I am very disappointed to be leaving Coventry so soon after joining the club but the bottom line is I wasn't wanted. "The Plymouth manager Bobby Williamson was very keen on getting me and that is a big factor in my decision. It is similar to when I first joined Coventry from Bochum when Eric Black wanted me and believed in me.
"Every player needs to feel wanted but that just has't been the case this season. When the manager tells you,you can go, you know the best thing is to find something else because the only way you will get a game is by filling in for injuries or suspensions.
It's always hard to leave a club, especially when you have made a lot of really good friends, but I'm not prepared to waste a year of my career not being in the manager's plans.
"Reid gave me the first three games of the season and then after that I was a sub for the most part. "Af first, I put it down to my own form which was fair enough, but more recently I have begun to realise that I was not in his plans.
"I wish the club all the best and would like to thank the fans for their support during my time at Coventry."
