Coventry City's 20 year old defender Nathan Cameron has spoken of his intention to be fully fit for the start of pre-season training.
Cameron, the Covsupport News Service Young Player of The Year winner for 2010/2011, only made 11 starts for the Sky Blues last term because of a persistent knee problem and which necessitated an operation at the end of last season.
Since the operation to remove a cyst and a piece of floating bone from his knee, Cameron has been working toward regaining his fitness as he prepares for life in League One.
Speaking to the CT's Andy Turner, Cameron said: “I’m doing physio and rehab now and hopefully I’ll be back for the pre-season. I’ve just got to see how it goes really. I haven’t started running yet but I am doing a couple of days a week trying to get fit in the gym.
“I’ve been trying to strengthen it, starting on the bike and getting that motion going again. I have managed to fit a holiday in but I’ve been totally focused on the rehab and trying to make sure it is right for the new season.”
Cameron explained that his knee problem was not an injury picked up in training or a game but an ongoing problem.
He said: "It wasn’t a specific incident that caused it. I had a bit of floating bone in my left knee and a cyst underneath so I had to have an operation to have it taken out.
“I started having trouble with it in March and then went for the op in April. I was on crutches for the first couple of days but I was all right to walk after that and I have just been taking it slowly.”
He concluded by saying: “It was a bit stop-start for me last season but I am really looking forward to getting things together in the new season and getting on the pitch.”
