Coventry City manager Aidy Boothroyd has given his young defender Nathan Cameron his vote of confidence after the young defender made a mistake that led to Norwich's winning goal last Saturday.
Cameron knew immediately that he had made a mistake and acknowledged it to the team and manager and Boothroyd said to the CT: "It was a silly, silly error that cost us a point."
"Nathan was supposed to be marking Holt and he let him get away at a corner, but he put his hand up right away which is a good sign. He was superb for the majority of the game, absolutely outstanding, and, in a way, that's why it was so annoying, but we have to remind ourselves that he's just starting out as a player, that was only his tenth game and if you're going to play somebody of that age you have to accept that making mistakes is part of the learning curve."
"When you're introducing young players into the first team, I believe that goalkeepers and centre-halves find it hardest to step up because there's so much they have to take on board."
"A few people were surprised when I gave Nathan his debut in our first match of the season but he's done so, so well for us and I genuinely believe we've got a top player on our hands. The crucial thing, as always, is that he's got to learn his lessons, make sure he doesn't make the same mistake twice."
"In football character is just as important as talent and he's certainly got that, which is how he'll get better. He knows that sort of error isn't acceptable, but he knows how much I rate him."
