City have signed defender Louis Carey on a free transfer from Bristol City. The 27 year old year old made 371 appearances for the Ashton gate club and can play either at right back or in the centre of defence.
He will fly out to Germany and could feature in City's opening game against Gemueden/Hunsruck Select.
Peter Reid said: “I’ve known the boy for a long time and he’s a very experienced player but still quite young in relative terms. He’s played at this level before when Bristol City were in Division One and I remember him coming to Sunderland and he stood out then.
“He’s predominantly a right back but he can just as easily slip into the centre and I think he will do a really good job for us.
”I’m not worried about his fitness too much because he was playing quite late on with Bristol in the play-offs. But he’ll come out to Germany and meet us so he will have time to get some matches in.”
