Speaking about the 36 year old Carsley who joined City for a second spell on Friday after his contract at Birmingham City expired, Aidy Boothroyd told Sky Blue Player: "I'm delighted to have got Lee Carsley in and as soon as I knew we could get him in I decided he would skipper the team.
"He's a natural captain and leader who won't take any nonsense or anybody not giving their all so I'm delighted to have him here.
"Any captain has to lead by example and walk his talk so to speak and if you look at Lee's track record it shows he's used to playing in winning teams.
"Not only will he be a captain but he'll help me, the players and the staff build a character here that doesn't accept mediocrity and push people to be all they can be."
Carsley sat out the 2-0 win at Walsall on Saturday as he is behind in his pre-season training but may feature against Shrewsbury Town tomorrow night.
