Speaking to the Birmingham Sunday newspaper the Sunday Mercury, Coleman said: "This league is the hardest one to get out of," he said. "If you look at the teams that go up, West Brom were the best Championship team by far last year and now they are at the bottom of the Premier League and it looks like they are going to get relegated.
"They went up and spent a little bit of money trying to strengthen their squad and that goes to show how difficult it is up there.
"This league we are in is a tough one but it is an exciting one because anyone can beat anyone. Charlton Athletic can go to Wolves and win but West Brom are not going to beat Manchester United unless something crazy happens. But the Championship is a good league with good quality and I think it is the fourth-most watched league in Europe, which just goes to show how good it is.
"My first full season has gone quite quickly. There's still a lot of work to be done. We have played a lot of games and sometimes when you look at things at the start of the season, you never think you are going to get through it. But looking back, it has gone quite quickly."
