A Coventry City Ladies XI will be featuring alongside the 1987 FA Cup winning team, in a charity event in the city this weekend.
The idea is the brainchild of Jo O’Sullivan, who is looking to raise money by cycling 350km across Cuba, in aid of Ronald McDonald House Charities – an independent charity which provides accommodation and housing to families with children in hospital.
The event – which takes place at the Powerleague centre at Woodlands Academy on Broad Lane – will be opened by the Lord Mayor, before a 5-a-side tournament kicks off between several Junior teams. A selection of players representing Coventry City Ladies then kick-off at 1pm, as they take on a team made up of parents and organisers.
This will be followed by the main event, which is a match between the 1987 FA Cup Winners and 'Allesley Allstars' to round the day off. Elsewhere, there will be a barbeque, a raffle, an auction and several other activities to keep everyone entertained on the day.
An annual tradition amongst the ex-players of the cup winning squad, the event is usually held at Hawkes Mill Social Club in Allesley – owned by ex-Coventry City midfielder Lloyd McGrath – but poor weather conditions this summer caused the event to be rearranged to an all-weather surface.
