City Academy Going Back To The Higgs?

Coventry City have had talks with the Alan Higgs Charity about returning to the Alan Higgs Centre.

The Sky Blues left after a dispute over unpaid bills and have been playing matches at the University of Warwick. However, the Coventry Telegraph are claiming that the FA want City back at the Higgs Centre as part of their Category 2 Licence.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner, City's Development Officer Steve Waggott said: “We can confirm that we are in talks with a view to our Academy returning to the Alan Higgs Centre.

“So far those talks have been positive and we are hopeful that a new deal can be struck.

“The Academy, as we have seen already this season, is absolutely crucial to Coventry City – both now and in the future – and it is clear that all sides would like an agreement that sees us return to the Alan Higgs Centre.”

Alan Higgs Centre Trust Chairman Peter Knatchbull-Hugessen, said: “Yes, we have had talks with Otium Entertainment Group (the company now running City) and they are progressing in a positive way but we have no announcement to make at the moment.

“Obviously if you have constructive talks, which we have, you hope to reach a positive conclusion.

“I have said all along that we have always been ready to talk. It may turn out that we can’t agree but it won’t be for the want of trying.”

The football club pulled out of the Higgs Centre officially in July after ten years at the purpose-built facility after being informed they would have to leave unless they paid more than £12,000 for the maintenance of equipment that had been damaged and fallen into disrepair over the last two years.
