The Football League have confirmed that Coventry City will be in the Northern Section of the Carling Cup First Round Draw.
The Sky Blues are one seventeen seeded clubs in the Northern part of the draw and face a tie against one of the following non-seeded Northern Section clubs: Accrington Stanley, Bradford City, Burton Albion, Bury, Chesterfield, Crewe Alexandra, Hartlepool United, Macclesfield, Morecambe, Notts County, Oldham Athletic, Port Vale, Rotherham United, Sheffield Wednesday, Shrewsbury Town, Tranmere Rovers, Walsall in the first round which will be drawn at 10am on Thursday morning.
The first round game will be on August 9/10th.
Coventry City have been in the Northern Section for a couple of years and have gone out of the competition at the first time of asking in the last two years, at home to Hartlepool and last season in a 2-0 defeat at Morecambe.
Being drawn in the Northern Section, City will miss out on a chance to play Football League newcomers Crawley Town or AFC Wimbledon who have to meet each other in a Preliminary Round match on July 29th which has become necessary after League Cup holders Birmingham City were relegated to the Championship. Birmingham due to their Europa League committments will not enter the League Cup until the Third Round.
