Coventry City manager Steven Pressley has said that he is in favour of 3G pitches.
Clubs in League One and Two are voting on whether to allow them be used for Football League matches at a meeting in Derby today.
“At my last club, Falkirk, we went to an artificial surface the season that I left," Pressley told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner.
“It was part of a business model to help generate extra finance and also to allow the club to train on it every day.
“The one thing I would say is I’ve been very much brought up in a generation of playing on grass pitches, and I very much like grass pitches, but the latest artificial surfaces are quite incredible and you’d be surprised of the quality of them.
“They never absolutely replicate the grass pitch but they are getting very close, and they are excellent.”
He added: “I understand in the Championship and Premier League there’s no real need for them because, generally, the pitches are excellent quality all year round.
“But in the lower leagues some of the pitches we play on in the winter months have been horrendous and so it would certainly make a difference there.
“Also, financially, it would help the clubs in the lower leagues that don’t have a training facility, so it would give them the opportunity to train every day on an artificial surface and provide additional revenue to help them survive. So when you look at it that way it does make perfect sense and I think it’s a good idea in the lower leagues.”
