Coventry City Development Director Steve Waggott has said that talks with defender Martin Cranie who is out of contract on June 30th are continuing.
Speaking to the CT's Andy Turner, Mr Waggott said: “We met last week and I am due to meet his agent in central London to continue the discussions in terms of what they are looking for in a package and what we can afford really, going forward, to see if we can create something to convince Martin to stay at Coventry.
“He’s keen to do it because obviously there is all the unsettling of moving house etc if he moves to another club, but then again, if a club of a higher league status comes in with a package then he’s got to consider that.
“But I’m trying to say to him, be part of the journey back to the Championship along with Richard.
"The two sort of come as a pair and it’s interesting to see the various dynamics around that.
"We’ll know more when we have had more talks but Martin certainly seems to be giving some positive words about staying if we can get somewhere near what he believes he deserves.
“It would be a real coup for us if we can get them both tied up and although League One is probably not ideal for them, I think they would relish the challenge of getting out.
"They love the club and the surroundings, and they realise how good the fans were to both of them last year.
“With a modern day footballer sometimes money screams so it is good that both of them recognise and appreciate the fans, and if we can reach a package where we can keep them then I am sure they’ll relish the challenge of trying to take us back at the first attempt.”
