Coventry City could have the avenue of bringing in youngsters from Premier League clubs blocked if new proposals to form a B league tomorrow go through.
The Football Association will consider tomorrow a new competition for B teams of Premier League and Championship clubs with one proposal being for these second teams to play in a league sandwiched between League Two and the Conference whilst another option is to merge the B teams with League Two and the Conference to form two regional leagues.
This could hamper League One and Two clubs like Coventry City who used the current loan system to take young players from Premier League and Championship.
Granted that neither Jamal Loza from Norwich City or Chuba Akpom could provide what the Sky Blues needed from them this season but City have benefitted by having the likes of Jordan Henderson, Stephen Warnock and Richie Partridge on loan from Premier League clubs in the past.
One could also cite the cases of clubs like Brentford, who achieved promotion due to some of the loan players they were able to attract, with players like Patrick Bamford and Alex Pritchard helping MK Dons and Swindon Town to higher league positions than they might not have otherwise attained.
If this new league comes in, then the loan system could be over as players will be needed for these B teams and although the FA feel that this new league may help the development of elite players in the country, just as they have done with the women's game, it is clear that this new league will be of little benefit to the rest of football.
