Coventry City have denied that the club gave away tickets to people based in Northampton in order to boost their gate for the game against Preston North End.
There have been rumours that tickets were given out to Northampton based people last Saturday night and whilst some of those who had free tickets at the Ricoh Arena got them at Sixfields, City's Ticketing Manager Dan Walker has said that the club was not handing out tickets to those based in Northampton.
He told the Coventry Telegraph that the increase of City supporters at the game: "Was due to a larger proportion of supporters purchasing on the day of the match.
“I did see lots of rumours about ticket giveaways in Northampton but they were categorically not true – we are putting the increase in supporters purely and simply down to the performance of the team at the start of this season.
“And from those attending the games, we are getting extremely positive feedback about the atmosphere and the general welcome they are receiving.
“Of course, 17 goals in two matches are going to add to the entertainment but the supporters who are attending have been right behind the team from start to finish.”
