City Down To Ninth

Coventry City are down to ninth in the Championship table after Tuesday night's round of matches.

City's 2-1 home defeat to Cardiff City saw the Welsh side close the gap on QPR at the top to two points after the West Londoners drew 0-0 at sixth placed Swansea.

Watford are up to third with a 2-1 win against Ipswich with Burnley who beat Barnsley 3-0 fourth. Norwich City, who were without the suspended Elliott Ward (pictured below) are fifth were beaten 2-1 by Crystal Palace.



At the other end of the table, bottom side Bristol City won their first home game of the season with a 1-0 win over Reading. Second from bottom Preston lost 3-2 at home to Scunthorpe who played former City loanee Freddy Sears for the whole game whilst third from bottom.

Leicester moved out of the bottom three with a 2-1 win at Leeds whilst ever improving Portsmouth won 1-0 at Millwall thanks to a 78th minute penalty.

Elsewhere, Derby won 3-2 at Doncaster and manager-less Middlesbrough lost 1-0 at Nottingham Forest.

Local non-league matches tonight saw Atherstone Town beaten 3-0 at home by Biggleswade Town but Bedworth got back to winning ways after their 10-0 defeat at Matlock Town on Saturday with a 2-1 home win over Woodford United thanks to goals from Rathbone and Ramsey.

In the Midland Alliance, Martin Thompson scored twice for Stratford Town in a 4-0 win at Coleshill Town and in the Midland Combination, former Coventry City youngster Tim Partridge scred along with a hat-trick from former Sphinx player Craig Civellis as Coventry Copsewood beat Pershore Town 5-3.
