Coventry City dropped to twelth place in the League One table after this afternoon's matches.
With the Sky Blues game against Walsall at Sixfields called off before 9.30am this morning due to a waterlogged pitch, Gillingham went above City in the table thanks to a 3-2 win over Micky Adams' Port Vale, which included a goal from Cody McDonald.
Leaders Brentford drew 1-1 at Shrewsbury Town with Wolves who beat Bradford City 2-0 going second and two points behind the Bees.
Third placed Leyton Orient lost 2-1 at fifth placed Rotherham United whilst fourth placed Preston North End beat 22nd placed Notts County 2-0.
At the other end of the table, Sheffield United remain second bottom after losing 3-0 at Crewe and are a point behind Notts County, Shrewsbury and Bristol City, who beat Carlisle United 2-1 at Ashton Gate.
Tranmere inched away to safety with a 1-0 win at MK Dons as did Oldham who won 1-0 at Swindon Town.
The games at Crawley and Peterborough were postponed.
