Coventry City old boys were dumped out of the Masters Tournament at the NIA in Birmingham.

The Sky Blues Old Boys team which comprised of Tim Clarke, Paul Telfer, Marcus Hall, Paul Williams, Steve Morgan, Claus Jorgensen, Paul Hall and John Williams lost 3-2 to Aston Villa, who included former Sky Blue Mustapha Hadji in their squad, in the first match with goals from John Williams in the third minute of this eight minute each way contest.

Having lost John Williams to a thigh muscle injury after a fall, Paul Telfer put City 2-0, tapping in at the far post with 2.50 remaining in the half.

However, history repeated itself and goals from Tony Daley and a brace from David Norton condemned City to another 3-2 defeat to Villa.

The City supporters who had travelled to the NIA were on their way home after City then lost 5-2 to Birmingham City in their second game. Nicky Forster put Birmingham ahead, before Paul Telfer fired over in the fourth minute. Paul Hall had a shot saved against last year's Grand Champions, but in the fifth minute, Paul Devlin made it 2-0 to the Brummies.

With 2.20 left in the first half, Paul Telfer scored from the edge of the area for City but with 32 seconds left of the half, Devlin scored again.

Straight after the restart, Birmingham scored a fourth through Jerry Gill. With six minutes left, Marcus Hall used his left foot to drive a shot into the net but O'Connor hit a fifth and Coventry City were out.

Villa beat Birmingham 5-2 in the final group game and drew 2-2 with Wolves who fielded former Sky Blue Colin Cameron.

The Midland Masters Tournament Final went to penatlies and with both sides only missing one of their first five penalties it was sudden death.Paul Creighton scored a penalty and then saved Dudley, the Wolves keeper's penalty to give Villa the title.
