Coventry City officials Tim Fisher and Steve Waggot have made personal donations to help get a local youngsters’ personal development off the ground.
The programme will be primarily run by Coventry Sports Foundation staff with support from Sky Blues in the Community and Coventry City FC and initially will run for six weeks through a series of three ‘Summer Blast’ sporting activity sessions, each lasting for two weeks at Coventry Sports Foundation’s three sites – Centre AT7, in Bell Green, the Alan Higgs Centre, on Allard Way, and the Xcel Leisure Centre, in Canley.
The project is looking to eventually offer bursaries to local, talented sports people to give them the chance to compete on a bigger stage.
In addition there will be open ‘Hit Squad’ family fun days held in local parks for the public to attend on the first Monday of every week during the school holidays.
For updates on the project and details of the Hit Squad family fun days visit covsf.com or call 02476 856956.
"This summer’s programme is just the beginning," said Steve Waggott to the Coventry Observer. "We wanted to get a project underway quickly and that is why Tim and I decided to put our own money forward.
"Sky Blues in the Community has done a great deal of fantastic work over recent years and this is very much an extension of that work.
"We recognise that the club should not be on the periphery of the community – it should be at the heart of it and there is much more to Coventry City Football Club than what happens on a Saturday afternoon at 3pm.
"The club has a big role to play and by getting this project off the ground we hope it shows our commitment and we are now looking for further partners to come on board to really make One Goal a major success."
