The game is due to kick off at 3pm on a day where there are many family parties and get-togethers as well as many wishing to welcome in the New Year in a pub or club.
It is hoped that a decision between the two clubs can be agreed and that both sets of supporters,players,officials and staff can all get back home in time to enjoy the evening.
Meanwhile, City and Norwich have agreed the venue for the opening game of the season on August 6th. A switch to Carrow Road is agreed between the two clubs but it will be up to the Football League to grant permission for the fixtures to be reversed.
