If proof was ever need of how Coventry City need to get back to playing football in Coventry, it has come following the announcing of the annual in-depth statistics about attendances last season by the Football League.

Please note that these stats are based on official gate statement returns from clubs so may vary from other data and that the Football League are refusing to say whether the figures are taken from people actually in the ground or the number of tickets sold, which is a method used by a number of clubs including Coventry City.

The figures released show that City's number of tickets sold was 27% down for the club's last season at the Ricoh Arena, which was their first back in League One, but following a season of playing matches at Sixfields, the number of tickets sold was a whopping 77% down on the previous season and not surprisingly the worst in the entire Football League.

City, did as, a proportion of fans that attend matches at Sixfields, have the highest number of travelling supporters in the entire Football League. The Sky Blues away support was up to 83.2%, an increase of 658%, as a propotion of those who go to matches at Sixfields, which is merely a venue for fulfilling the playing of league matches, thus retaining Football League membership and would have been used even if not one supporter attended.

City's biggest away turn out for a single League game was at MK Dons and Stadium MK was the most visited ground by away supporters in League One which include 8.943 Wolves fans for a game in March.

Away fans at Sixfields for City matches averaged 658 which was 19% down on the numbers who went to the Ricoh Arena the previous season and 38th best in the Football League.
